Marin History Museum - Planned Exhibit for Public Safety

I want to share with you the news of an exciting new project that I am now working on with several other volunteers.  I hope that you and MCGS will help spread the word about the Marin History Museum and this exciting exhibition.  I just posted another message about their research and storage facility.

My hope is that you will help us to let others know of this exhibition by publishing it in our newsletter.  Gene Pennington

I attended a meeting on 7/19/12 with several interested volunteers who want to preserve Marin County public safety history.  One of the people who attended was Holly Gallagher, Curator for the Marin History Museum.  She announced a special exhibition titled "Justice and Judgment" that will open at the Marin History Museum at 1125 B Street, San Rafael.  The special exhibit will start the end of September, 2012 and run for 6 to 8 months.  Exact dates will be announced soon.

The exhibition will have 3 galleries open to the public.  One gallery will be focused on San Quentin, another on First Responders and the third gallery will focus on Judges and Court Houses.  The gallery for First Responders will include law enforcement, fire services and emergency medical services.

She said they plan to have a kiosk in each gallery showing digital videos or images and there will be a number of display cases with artifacts.  She explained the artifacts would be things such as:

  • Books
  • Paper documents such as memos, bulletins, training material
  • Maps
  • Hats
  • Bracelet
  • Pictures
  • Digitized audio histories
  • Badges
  • Patches
  • Equipment such as holsters, belts, handcuffs, etc.
  • Uniforms
  • Specialized equipment

She said that any artifacts accepted by the Museum for display in this exhibition can either be returned to the owner or can be donated and added to their collection.  You can read more about how to donate material in another message I will post next.

The Marin History Museum has a great website at:  http://www.marinhistory.org/

The also have an "app" for the iPhone or your Android device/s.  Visit iTunes Store or your Android app store and search for Marin History Museum and then download and install the app.
