SRPD 2010 Update

Hi,

I wanted to thank Gene again for allowing me to post on this site. With all that has gone on in the last year or so, I have neglected to post anything new. I didn't want to post any bad stuff on here but as most of you know we have gone through dramatic budget cuts in the agency. Maybe some of you can verify this for me but I understand that for the first time in the history of SRPD we laid off actual working people. We lost a dispatcher, records clerk, property/evidence specialist, the downtown foot beat officer (who was a contract employee), the personnel manager (also a contract employee), and elimiated the Police Ranger position which caused the Ranger to retire. The effect on the agency has been tough but I think it showed the true color of SRPD that we are all banding together and getting through this. I hope it is over but all of us are holding our breath to see what the State does when they finally decide on a budget.

Otherwise SRPD has been a busy place. Two of the four new Lieutenants changed assignments in March. I took over Investigations, Youth Services, and kept Community Policing. Al Piombo traded with me and took over Dispatch, Records, Property, kept the Training Section, and due to a layoff, took over the personnel division which was renamed professional standards. Sergeant Raul Aguilar came back to Investigations to run our Directed Patrol Unit (Street Crimes to you old timers). The other large change in the agency was the retirement of Harry Barbier. We discovered since he left that he was nt doing the work of two people but probably more like three people!

So that is my update. SRPD is going strong! If any of you have twitter, you can follow us at www.twitter.com/sanrafaelpolice

If anyone has any questions about specific people or items, let me know. You can also e-mail me at 447@srpd.org Thanks and be safe everyone!

Lt. Dan
